Professional Tax (PT) is a state-level tax levied on individuals earning income from profession, trade, or employment in India. The documentation required for Professional Tax Registration and filing varies by state and the type of business or profession. Here’s a general list of documents typically required to apply for Professional Tax registration, whether for an individual or a business entity:

 

1. Application Form

  • Completed application form for Professional Tax registration, which can be obtained from the state’s tax department or filed online, depending on the state.

 

2. Proof of Identity of the Applicant

  • For Individuals: PAN Card, Aadhaar Card, Passport, Voter ID, or any government-issued identity card.

  • For Businesses: PAN of the business or the proprietor.

 

3. Proof of Address

  • For Individuals: Aadhaar Card, Passport, Voter ID, or Driving License.

  • For Businesses: Utility bill (electricity, water, or telephone bill) not older than 3 months, lease/rent agreement, or property tax receipt.

 

4. Proof of Business/Professional Registration

  • For Companies: Certificate of Incorporation and Memorandum of Association (MOA).

  • For Partnerships: Partnership Deed.

  • For Sole Proprietorship: No specific registration is required unless under specific schemes.

  • For LLPs: LLP registration certificate.

 

5. PAN Card of the Business/Proprietor

  • A copy of the PAN Card of the business entity or the proprietor (for sole proprietorship).
